Star-Forming Region RCW38 Credit: ISAAC, 8.2-meter VLT, ESO. Star cluster RCW38 was hiding in thick dust that absorbs visible light. The photograph was one of the first ever taken with the new Infrared Spectrometer and Array Camera (ISAAC) affixed to the 8.2-meter Very Large Telescope. Authors & editors: Robert Nemiroff (MTU) & Jerry Bonnell (USRA) NASA Technical Rep.: Jay Norris. LHEA at NASA/ GSFC &: Michigan Tech. U.

Southern Deep Field,  A Deep Field In The Southern Sky Credit: R. Williams (STScI), HDF-S Team, NASA Explanation: This new deep view of the cosmos is the sequel to the 1995 hit Hubble Space Telescope Deep Field. Billed as the Hubble Deep Field South, it was produced by pointing the space telescope toward a patch of sky in the southern constellation Tucana. Over a period of 10 days, many separate exposures were accumulated and combined to reveal progressively fainter galaxies. The original deep field was constructed by observing a piece of sky in the northern constellation Ursa Major. Both stare down 12 billion light-year long tunnels to far-off and still mysterious times when young galaxies inhabited an infant universe. LHEA at NASA/ GSFC &: Michigan Tech. U.,
Nearby Galaxy, HidingCepheus Credit: R. Walterbos et al. (NMSU), Apache Point Obs. Cepheus 1 was missed previously because it is so uniformly dim. Cepheus 1 turns out to be only about 20 million light years distant, and so is one of the few spiral galaxies that live close by. LHEA at NASA/ GSFC &: Michigan Tech. U.
Meteor Milky Way, - Credit and Copyright: Jeff Medkeff Explanation: Gorgeous color photo of the Milky Way with the striking red Rosette Nebula in bloom left of center. Cutting across this dim, diffuse band of stars which lie along the plane of our Galaxy is a meteor streak. It seems to pass just under the red-orange giant star Betelgeuse at Orion's shoulder. Authors & editors: Robert Nemiroff (MTU) & Jerry Bonnell (USRA) NASA Technical Rep.: Jay Norris. LHEA at NASA/ GSFC &: Michigan Tech. U.
Feast of Stephen, 1981, Lucinda Parker (American, b. 1942) Acrylic and rhoplex on canvas; Parker abandoned representational painting while still in art school and, after a brief flirtation with the Minimalist style that defined the late 1960s and early 1970s, she began developing her own brand of abstraction.
Kenichi Takemoto Photo Gallery (Japan) There are many photos of beautiful flowers.
A Leonid Bolide Over Kansas Credit & Copyright: V. Winter & J. Dudley, ICSTARS Astronomy, APOD. Extremely bright meteors, known as bolides or fireballs, can briefly glow brighter than the full moon. LHEA at NASA/ GSFC &: Michigan Tech. U.

Seven Leonids Over Wise Observatory Credit: O. Gazbo (Wise Observatory) In Israel, early in the morning of 17 November, observers reported a peak rate for the 1998 Leonid Meteor Shower of about 600 meteors per hour. Visible are no fewer than seven.
